LOGAN — A 24-year-old Hyde Park man has admitted to trying to share child sexual abuse material through a social media app. Luke Hylton Harris was arrested in August 2024 after police served a warrant to his place of employment.
According to court records, Harris appeared Oct. 29 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, amended to a third-degree felony.
According to prosecutors, the Logan City Police Department received a cyber-tip in June 2024, claiming Harris had uploaded several pornographic photos of young girls to a Snapchat account. The tip had been relayed to police from the Utah Attorney General’s Office.
Police reported the pictures were of a 13 or 14-year-old girl. The user account they were uploaded to was registered to Harris.
Investigators were able to determine the pictures were uploaded to the Snapchat account through an open WIFI at a south Logan medical clinic. They later learned Harris worked at a barber shop next door.
Police served a search warrant to Harris while he was at work. They seized his phone and attempted to question him.
While at the police station, Harris reportedly requested an attorney and would not speak to investigators.
Harris is currently out of jail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 7.
